![]() Little do we know that our own voices inside of our heads will soon take control of what we do and determine the choices that we make (can be good or bad choices). This poem talks about how often times we are sick of hearing what other people tell us to do (especially if it is bad advice), so we leave them. In lines thirty four to the end of the poem, the author talks about how the only thing the character can do is to saveā¦to save himself from everything that he was being harmed from. In lines thirty to thirty three, the poem talks about how the characters own voice begins to tell the character what to do with his life. The character begins to hear a new voice, which he slowly recognizes as his own. ![]() In Lines twenty three to twenty nine, the poem talks about hearing a new voice as the character leaves the old voices behind. He was well on his way towards achieving his goal already. However, no matter how hard the wind was blowing, it was too late for the character to turn back. Lines fourteen to twenty two talk about how the wind tried to break down the foundations of the characters belief that he can reach his goal. ![]() Line twelve and thirteen talk about how the character continues on striving towards his goal without stopping because he knew what he had to do. The old connections I previously spoke of will make attempts to stop you from pursuing this life, but perseverance and determination will get you far and help you to start living your life. The character feels that people are begging him to help them find their purpose and goal in life. In Mary Olivers poem, The Journey, she speaks of that moment of self realization and taking the first step into a life worth living. The sixth to eleventh lines talk about how the entire house began to tremble because of these voices that keep shouting. Although the character is working towards his goal, there are voices in the background that are shouting and giving bad advice to the character. The third, fourth, and fifth line describe the setting of the story. The first two lines of the poem describe how this character realizes what he had to do and he began to work towards his goal. This poem talks about a person who goes through many hardships in life trying to reach the goal that he has set in his life (journey).
